Meet the Muses

Sarah, Emma & Chessie

The past few months have been full of exciting developments for us here at Mutual Muse.

We said goodbye to the store that started it all in Thornbury, and have been loving meeting new friends and neighbours at our shiny Northcote location (and a cool feature from Braodsheet!). We’ve installed new artworks from Sara Sulava, re-launched our Seasonal Lookbook Series, and had an amazing time engaging with our communities at the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

We’ve also been expanding our team and welcoming lots of floor staff and buyers to the MM fold. In this blog series, you can spot some familiar faces, meet some new ones, and get to know us a little better!

In the first instalment of the Meet the Muses series, we’re introducing you to Sarah (she/they), Emma (she/her) and Chessie (she/her). Scroll through to find out a bit more about their history with Mutual Muse, as well as some insight into their personal style :-)

Sarah (she/they)

Buyer/Northcote Assistant Manager

How long have you been at MM?

Almost 2 and a half years now.

What’s your favourite thing you’ve bought for the store?

That’s a tough one! Number one find has to be some Elizabeth Suzann Clyde pants in my size. I wanted them forever and could never justify buying them new.

A close second is definitely a denim Kowtow trench that came in the other week. I’m in love!

If you were a type of fabric, what would you be?

Probably a boring answer but indigo selvage denim.

Behind the window, we can see the clothing in store and reflections of the street. Sarah wears a brown t-shirt, a long checkered dress, a lightwash denim jacket, and lilac sneakers. Her face is slightly tilted to her left. She smiles at the camera.

Emma (she/her)

Kirsta’s Wingwoman/Head of Ops

How long have you been at MM?

Since 2018.

What’s your favourite thing you’ve bought for the store?

My fave buy was a MASSIVE haul from a long time customer who has the most impeccable taste. She brought in 4 storage tubs of alllll our (my!) faves - Acne, Alpha60, Kuwaii, Kloke, CDG. It was actual heaven to see that HUGE pile of clothing on the counter, then pore over it to price it and get it ready for sale. Needless to say, it was snapped up in no time (and not all by me).

She poses with her right hand in her pocket and smiles at the camera. She has shoulder-length blonde hair, and wears a t-shirt in gradient shades of olive, pink, and purple, as well as black pants and lilac loafers.

What is your favourite trend from fashion history?

My fave fashion trend is the completely new look brought by the Antwerp Six in the 1980s. Their deconstructed, anti-fashion, artistic take on style has been mostly timeless and an aesthetic I love.

Chessie (she/her)

Floor Team Member/Buyer-in-Training

She has short, dark brown hair, and wears glasses, silver earrings, and a coordinated red outfit: red top, red checkered cardigan, and a red ribbon around her neck.

How long have you been at MM?

Only a month and a half, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it.

Describe your style in three words:

Three things that immediately come to mind is fairy/pixie/witchy, nature-inspired, and a LOT of red.

(Hey Chessie, that’s way more than three words! 😝 )

If you could steal anyone's wardrobe, real or fictional, whose would it be?

Phoebe or Prue Halliwell from Charmed or @courtneymawhorrr on IG!
