Sell Your Clothes

Reduce your waste & make a little cash (or store credit) in the process.

We all have items we no longer wear, so selling on your best pieces makes sense.

Here’s a video about us and what we do!

How does it work?

Check out ‘What can I bring in?’ below for an idea of what we accept!

Find the best way to sell, above.

In person: Bring your clean, excellent-condition pieces into our Northcote or Brunswick stores, at your confirmed appointment time. We accept walk-ins at any time, especially if you’ve done it before and get how we work. Please arrive 30 mins before closing time.

Both of our stores buy and sell clothing for all genders.

Via post: We also accept items via post. Click here to tell us about what you’re looking to sell.

We’ll sort through your clothes to select the pieces we know our customers will love.

4

For the items we accept, you can choose between 30% cash via bank transfer* or 50% in store credit*. You will need a driver's licence (or valid ID) and bank details (BSB + account number) if accepting cash.

*Of the value we assign your clothes. For example, if we are going to sell an item at $40, you will receive $12 in cash via bank transfer OR $20 in store credit.

Selling Guidelines

We have broad guidelines, but we prioritise clothing, shoes and accessories that are:

In-season

Why: The clothes we purchase go straight onto the floor to sell. We don’t store winter coats in the summertime.

Clean, smell-free, no pet hair and in good repair

Why: Because no one wants to buy smelly, broken clothes!

Made from natural fabrics

Why: We prioritise well-made items of fabrics like cotton, silk, linen, wool because their lifecycle is significantly longer, and when they DO come to the end of their life, they are more easily recycled or break down more easily.

Freshly laundered, folded, and in reusable bags

Why: They present better, are easier for us to sort (especially in a busy store) and we can see the clothes have been cared for. Please, no hangers (they’re too hard to sort through) and there’s no need to iron as everything gets a steam before it’s put up for sale.

Broken or dirty clothes

You don’t want to buy broken and dirty clothes that’s a given — so we don’t buy them.

Fast Fashion brands

Why: It’s a matter of quality, ethics and sustainability. Most fast fashion is not made well and is often made of synthetics that are harder to recycle at the end of their life.

For an example of some brands that aren’t really our thing, click here.

Suits and office apparel

Why: It’s not what the Mutual Muse customer is looking for. We recommend Fitted for Work — they do amazing work

Formal wear

Why: Traditional formal wear (like ball gowns ) simply does not sell in our stores, but we think you might find something fun and funky for less formal affairs.

FAQs

How do I know what you’ll buy?

Read the information above (click here), but if you’re still unsure please contact us here.

Why did you accept one thing I brought in, and not the other?

Our buying process is a delicate juggle of balancing what we already have in-store, the current season, and what's currently selling well. For example, we often receive too many of a particular size/style and have to say no thank you, even if the items are very nice. Please don't be offended when/if we say 'no thank you'!

Does your store credit expire?

Nope!
